Apple Honey Cake


 

Ingredients for sauce

½ cup honey

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 tablespoon water 

 

Ingredients for cake

2 large or 3 medium tart apples

2 cups all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

⅔ cup sugar

⅓ cup honey

2 eggs

1 stick plus 4 tablespoons butter

¼ cup milk

 

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 and grease a 9-inch cake pan. 

  2. Peel and core apples. Slice thinly. 

  3. Line the pan with apples. 

  4. Add all the ingredients for the sauce into a small saucepan. Cook on medium heat until sugar is dissolved and the sauce is reduced to a dark amber color (about 5 minutes). 

  5. Pour sauce over apples. 

  6. Whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. 

  7. In a medium bowl, whisk together sugar, honey, eggs, butter, and milk. 

  8. Whisk into flour mixture until just combined. 

  9. Pour cake batter onto apples. 

  10. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until it springs back when gently touched.
